I was in the band and orchestra, I played for the county band, I participated in NYSSMA (if you know, you know), and I even took private lessons weekly. During all of this, I was also musically inclined and played the French Horn from 4th grade until I graduated high school. Sure, music and gaming never left my life but at some point, it stopped leaving that mark for quite some time before returning within the past few years. I had Green Day’s Dookie, The Offspring’s Self-Esteem, and The Jerky Boys (do not judge me!).
Like video games, I also remember the first few CDs I bought with my own money (I had cassettes but either I recorded music off the radio or someone gave them to me). There are a few others but we do not have all day. I can vividly remember playing games like Duck Hunt (anyone else hold the gun right to the screen?), Contra (up, up, down, down…nevermind), Goldeneye (I still know the facility like the back of my hand), and, of course, Final Fantasy III. Video games and music share a similar journey in my life.
